How it’s used
사랑하다 is strong, heartfelt love, said to partners and family and shouted at concerts (사랑합니다!). In conversation the object is often dropped: 사랑해 alone means “I love you.” For things you enjoy, such as food and hobbies, 좋아하다 is the natural choice.
Common mistake
Using 사랑하다 for liking things: 김치를 사랑해요 sounds like a dramatic declaration. What people actually say is 김치를 정말 좋아해요.
